Janine Moolman
Jan Moolman is a feminist editor, writer, trainer and activist with extensive experience in the South and Southern African women’s rights sector. Her entry point into women’s rights has been through media - she is a former editor of Agenda, South Africa’s longest surviving feminist journal; newspaper columnist, and has contributed to a number of publications dealing with women’s rights issues. Jan’s work experience has included In 2007, Jan guest edited an Agenda journal edition on technology with a team from Women’sNet, where she worked as the Media and Information Manager. Women’sNet is a Southern African organization that promotes the strategic use of ICTs amongst women, girls and marginalized groups for social action. Through her work at the Southern African NGO Network, Jan has conducted training and capacity building for South African NGOs in the use of social media to deepen and support their work and managed an information portal. She is also a digital story telling trainer. Jan is currently reading for a Masters in Media Studies and is coordinating a 12-country project on violence against women and the internet implemented by Association for Progressive Communications’ Women’s Networking and Support Programme.
Michele Ruiters
Michele Ruiters has a Ph. D. Degree in Political Science and a Certificate in Women’s Studies from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, United States. She is Acting Research Manager in the Development Planning Division at the Development Bank of Southern Africa. Michele has taught political studies at universities in South Africa and in the US. Recently she completed a co-authored study on post-conflict financing in Southern Africa. She has published in the areas of international institutional reform; militarisation in Africa; gender and development; gender and trade; poverty eradication; and identity politics. Her work includes articles in Agenda: A Feminist Journal, an edited volume on Gender Instruments in Africa: Consolidating gains in the Southern African Development Community (Institute for Global Dialogue, 2008) and a co-edited volume with Michelle Pressend, Dilemmas of Poverty and Development: A proposed policy framework for the Southern African Development Community (Institute for Global Dialogue, 2008).
