Background
The Zimbabwe Gender Budgeting Network (ZGBN) was formed on the 26th of September 2007. It is a network of organizations and individuals dedicated to facilitating greater citizen and civil society participation in budgeting issues, and influence the level of priority and resources afforded to gender issues in policy making and public budgeting.
The network was borne out of the recognition that there are a small number of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) skilled in policy and budget analysis, and limited advocacy and engagement between civil society and government on gender, economics, policy planning and budgeting issues. Civil Society and gender researchers need to be capacitated to continuously engage and participate in the budget process in order to influence it, and in turn, to build the capacity of communities to demand for accountability in public expenditure.
Aim
The aim of the ZGBN is to create space for sustained and focused advocacy around gender concerns, particularly as they relate to policy making and resource allocation. Advocacy around gender issues in national macroeconomic policy and planning would contribute to broader developmental goals and issues of participation, transparency and good governance.
Vision
Gender sensitive budgets that address the needs and priorities of women, men, girls and boys.
Mission
To ensure gender sensitive budgeting through advocacy, participation, research and capacity building.
