Local Government Gender Budgeting Project
This is a five-year project initiated by ZWRCN in September 2008 to ensure that Government and Civil Society are more capable, accountable and responsive to the needs of women and other vulnerable groups in Zimbabwe. The project is premised on the recognition that local government is a crucial institution for change as this is where service delivery occurs, public decisions are made and resources allocated. The project is being piloted in five urban districts (Masvingo, Bulawayo, Gweru, Kwekwe and Kadoma) and one rural district (Mutoko). The target groups for the project includes councillors, council staff, residents associations, and marginalised groups comprising of women, youths, the elderly and people with disabilities. The Local Government Gender Budgeting Programme is being supported by UK Aid through Department For International Development with a total grant of approximately £1,5million.
