Documentation Center
The Documentation Centre is at the heart of ZWRCN information management work. The users of the Centre, in particular the library have spanned from academics, students, women, civil society activists, to policy makers and researchers amongst others. Aside from information for their particular needs, there are other services available for users, namely Internet connectivity, newspaper cuttings, photocopying facilities, and new acquisitions.
During 2009 the first phase of an updating exercise for the Centre was undertaken, supported by the French Embassy and the American Embassy. The vision is to make the Centre a cutting edge information and knowledge-building environment, which also promotes a feminist culture and a peaceful environment for reflection. As part of the updarting exercise, computers were purchased to make way for the set up of an information kiosk. Linked to the information kiosk is a wireless facility to allow users to connect to the Internet using their own laptops. Users will also be able to access ejournals and ebooks.
The Documentation Centre continues with its efforts to provide an enhanced service to users, including raising revenue through membership fees in order to provide specialized information and other services, whilst sustaining the Centre in the long term.
As part of outreach activities to disseminate information, the Documentation Centre has Memorandum of Agreements with the Rural Libraries and Resources Development Programme (RRLDP) and Edward Ndlovu Memorial Library that allows dissemination of information materials through these institutions’ structures. The Documentation Centre has been able to reach out to communities as far as Bubi district, Gwanda district, Nkayi, and Nyanga.
