1. ZWRCN produces a pool of Regional GB trainers
A Regional Gender Budgeting Training of Trainers Workshop was held for 27 representatives of government and civil society from 8 countries in the region with support from UNIFEM SARO.
ZWRCN with support from UNIFEM SARO held a Gender Budgeting training of trainers’ workshop from 2-6 august 2010 for 27 SADC government and civil society representatives aimed at equipping participants with skills in imparting Gender Budgeting knowledge. Participants were drawn from 8 countries namely Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
Participants were provided with in-depth information on strategies to Gender Budgeting implementation. An overview of GB global overview was given. Participants were taken through the gender budgeting conceptual framework i.e. gender budget situational analysis, gender policy analysis, gender budget analysis and gender budget monitoring. The participants engaged in lively debates such as on how best to train gender budgeting. Participants also took the workshop as a platform for sharing country experiences in gender and gender budgeting issues. The workshop concluded with a session on how to prepare for gender budgeting event where participants were equipped with planning skills.
Above and beyond class learning, the connections formed, laid a foundation for further information sharing on GB best practices in the region.
